Dear Friends,
Greetings from Marabut Municipality in Samar Provice. As previously reported we are already moving to another province which is Samar for our toilet implementation. Since the previous report, we have already constructed a total of 63 toilets here in Marabut. Our special problem here is the remoteness of the place and the gravity of the devastation which until now the residents are coping. The local people received us warmly and they assisted in the toilet installation activities. We started with communal type with each toilet to be shared with 10 families but this did not work out so we reverted to individual toilets.
In terms of capacity-building, we are doing hands-on on-site training activities. Our strategy is to conduct a 1-2-hour training among the beneficiaries, once the toilets are ready for use. Training is simply on cleaning, management, proper use of the toilet and simple repairs if needed. Our next phase will be to continue toilet construction activities. We involve the local leaders and community members in the decision-making process.
Hoping for your kind continuing support to this initiative. We are planning to expand our toilet construction activities in Marabut and expand to other municipalities later on.
Very sincerely yours,
Cora
