By Cora Sayre | Project Leader
Dear Friends and Supporters,
Warm greetings and thank you very much for your kind support to our project to provide safe sanitation to typhoon survivors in Leyte. This reporting period we implemented 3 sets of urine diverting dehydration toilets to 3 schools in Albuera Municipality. The urine diverting dehydration toilet or simply "ecosan" is designed in areas where water is deficient. The Municipality of Albuera is such kind of municipality with water very scarce. Aside from being operational in water deficient condition, the human waste can be used after proper storage and treatment as fertilizer for the flowers and trees growing around the school grounds. This is a groundbreaking model and is considered a "first" in Leyte.
Together with the introduction of the toilet, we trained the students who will be users on its proper use and management. Total number of students trained is 730. We hope that this model can be a source of inspiration for others to implement similar initiatives.
Again thank you very much for your kind support.
Very sincerely yours,
Cora
