Dear Team,
Since we posted this project on GlobalGiving in November, our mobile medical clinic has delivered over 19,000 vaccines. These vaccines protect against tuberculosis, polio, measles, rubella, hepatitis B, pneumonia, rotavirus, diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis, influenza, HPV, and more. Delivering these vaccines prevents massive disease outbreaks and unnecessary deaths from occurring within the Ngorongoro Conservation Area (NCA). The mobile clinic is as essential as ever, especially with the current drought in Tanzania. Many of the pastoralist Maasai people have left home in search of greener pastures to graze their cattle. Since they are currently far from any available clinics, it’s difficult for these women to keep their children on a vaccine schedule without us coming directly to them.
Other than supplying vaccinations to various age groups (children under 2 years, girls aged 9 to 14 and pregnant mothers), the mobile clinic also provides other important services, such as growth monitoring for children under 5 years, antenatal care services, treatment of common conditions, and health education sessions on topics including nutrition, disease prevention, and environmental sanitation. A total of 273 pregnant mothers attended the mobile clinic in January 2026 alone! Here, they receive iron supplements, malaria prevention medicine, mosquito nets, and a check-up which includes an ultrasound. Dr. Shemaghembe just sent out his annual report for 2025, reporting that 581 mobile medical clinics were completed during the year. That is an immense amount of medical service provided! When compared to the government-funded health clinics which also deliver vaccines, the mobile medical clinics were responsible for delivering 52% of all vaccines given in the NCA in 2025. When we visited the mobile clinics last month, we were surprised at how many women were in attendance to take advantage of the services that we provide. I counted 9 pregnant mothers being attended to at one clinic alone, and there are 49 clinics being provided each month.
This project will be eligible for GlobalGiving’s Little by Little campaign, starting today, where all eligible small donations (up to $50 per unique donor, per organization) will be matched at 50% until funds run out. GlobalGiving has $125,000 available to match donations made by you, so if you’re planning to donate anytime soon, March 17-20, 2026 is a good time to amplify your impact! We are about 33% of the way to our goal so far, and we are very thankful to our funding team for getting us to this point.
With much gratitude and appreciation,
Judy Lane and Felicia Smith of Maasai Partners
