Your Donation helped keep a girl in school

By Miriam Nakiyaga | Team Leader

“‘I want to study teacher Miriam, I do, and I want to be like you but I am not like you. I am not privileged to be born into a family like yours, I can’t afford the life of an educated girl. The reason I was absent last week is because I was in my womanhood days and it takes me five days. I can’t afford sanitary pads, soap and have only one knicker. How do I come to school and not get embarrassed and bullied when I stain my uniform? I want to get married at least then my husband will buy soap for me and I don’t have to worry anymore about menstruation related embarrassing issues I will be at my house”. These were the words a 15 year old girl shared with our team leader Miriam Nakiyaga who doubles as a teacher by profession.

These stories are the reason Kyobe Foundation exists and takes action against period poverty and stigma which is a contributor to girl child school dropout rates and child marriages. We never do it alone.

Kyobe Foundation expresses its deepest gratitude for your invaluable support towards menstrual health initiatives in the past. Your generosity has played a crucial role in breaking down barriers and facilitating access to essential menstrual health resources for countless for 3000 girls.

Since your last contribution, we have made significant progress in advancing menstrual health and reducing the adverse effects of gender inequality surrounding this crucial topic. From distributing sustainable menstrual products in underserved communities to implementing comprehensive educational programs such as the "Her Voice" community girls only clubs. Your previous support has had an immense impact. Today, as we continue our journey towards achieving a more equitable society, we are reaching out to invite you to partner with us once again. With your renewed assistance, we can further enhance the positive trajectory we have embarked upon and amplify our efforts in empowering a girl child.

Here are just a few key reasons why your continued support is vital.

Social Justice: We look at period poverty as a matter of social justice and believe that all girls regardless of their economic situation, should have access to safe menstrual products. It’s an issue of equality and human rights. We never do it alone. Your support ensures that these girls have access to safe menstrual products and saves them from relying on unhealthy options such as old rags, sponges among others.

Health and Hygiene: Menstruation is a natural part of every girls’ reproductive health. Lack of access to menstrual products leads to unhygienic practices, increasing the risk of infection and other health issues. We aim to promote good menstrual hygiene for the well-being of girls.

Education: Girls who cannot afford or access menstrual products miss school during their periods. This leads to education setbacks and perpetuates the cycle of poverty. Addressing period poverty ensures that girls can fully attend school and reach their full potential.

Empowerment: When we provide menstrual products to those in need, we empower individuals to manage their periods with dignity and confidence. This positively impacts their self-esteem, mental well-being and overall quality of life.

Sustainable development: Tackling period poverty aligns with broader goals of sustainable development such as; promoting gender equality, promoting access to education, reducing inequalities, and ensuring good health and well-being for all.

Sustainable Impact: By contributing to menstrual health initiatives, you directly enable girls to stay in school, actively participate in their respective communities, and ensure that no girl is held back due to menstrual stigma or lack of resources to manage a biological process as menstruation.

Amplified Reach: With your generous donation, we can expand our outreach programs, enabling us to reach even more marginalized communities and make a tangible difference in the lives of those who need it most.

Advocacy and Awareness: Your support helps us create a wave of change by raising awareness, dispelling myths, and challenging societal norms surrounding menstruation. Together, we put an end to discrimination and fostering a more inclusive society.

We understand that your commitment to empowering menstrual health may align with numerous other worthy causes. However, we genuinely believe that through your continued partnership, we can accomplish remarkable goals together.

Please let us know if you would be interested in further discussing the impact your donation could make or if you have any specific questions or concerns. We are more than willing to provide any additional information you may need to help you make an informed decision. We sincerely hope that you will consider joining us in our continued efforts to champion menstrual health. Together, we can create a lasting impact.

With gratitude,

Kyobe Foundation team
