CHRISTAMS APPEAL FOR MALARIA PREVENTION

By Jane Kaye-Bailey | Founder

After years of studying malaria interventions we pioneered a programme entitled 'Mosquito Nets For Schools' in 2017. The aim is to provide every school pupil and teacher with a mosquito net as opposed to donating the nets to the health authories whose priority is fror under-fives and pregnant women.
To avoid any risk of our donations being given to the wrong people we take the mosquito nets directly to the schools using our local trustees and health workers. The children are educated on the dangers of malaria and how best to use the mosquito nets.
2025 has seen a 16% increase in malaria cases in Zambia. A new RTS, S/AS01 vaccine is now being rolled out in Zambia, with the priority being for under-five children. However, this is for infants under one year, which means older children have not protention, and it will take time.
Mosquito nets have a substantial impact on reducing the number of malaria cases, especially in children. They can prevent severe disease and loss of life.
Our surveys show that this method not only ensures that more children have protection but it reduces severe cases of malaria and absenteeism.
A mosquito net costs just £5 or $7 and could save a child's life.
