COVID-19 and Monkeypox

By Anja Schneider | GAIA Vaccine Foundation Volunteer

The COVID-19 pandemic has swept the world, with the virus continuing to affect people across the globe, in ways big and small.

The virus poses the biggest threat to those who are immunocompromised, as well as those with limited access to quality and affordable healthcare. Many individuals who fit into these categories are the patients we see at our partner organization, Hope Center Clinic.

Not only is this pandemic consistently pressing and requires a plethora of medical equipment to properly combat, but now the presence of Monkeypox has complicated the matter and increased health risks for the local population.

Many African Member States have recently faced challenges with properly combatting Monkeypox. Given the lack of smallpox vaccinations, there is a larger percentage of the population that is susceptible to Monkeypox.

There is also a lack of testing for both COVID-19 and Monkeypox, which means that the actual number of cases in each country is likely far greater.

GAIA Vaccine Foundation has taken initiative by partnering with Hope Center Clinic in Mali in anticipation for larger COVID-19 waves, and is now working to implement preventative measures against Monkeypox. One of the most immediate ways we can prevent infectious disease in Sikoro is through providing PPE at the clinic.

For just $10, a box of gloves can be provided to our staff of doctors and nurses. For $25, a box of masks. For larger donations, you would be providing adequate testing for our patients and continued support of our hardworking staff.

With your support, we will continue towards our project goal of protecting those who are most vulnerable during this unprecedented time.

Thank you for your support to GAIA VF!
