Mangrove Conservation & Restoration in Bangladesh

Mangroves have great importance regarding environmental protection. It is one of the greatest natural assets of the world. Mangroves contribute a lot to store the ever increasing carbon from the environment. It is of incredible importance in protecting the disaster vulnerable coastal households from natural hazards.

BEDS (Bangladesh Environment and Development Society) is seriously concerned on mangrove restoration and protection and has been conducting community based mangrove plantation and restoration since 2013.Currently, the organization is raising fund from GlobalGiving platform to restore mangroves in the Sundarbans periphery. Target grant of the proposed project is 100,000 $ and so far, 1,902 $ is raised from 129 donations.  

In the month of October 2020, we planted 1500 more mangroves at Munshigonj Union under Shyamnagar sub district of Satkhira district of Bangladesh engaging the students and villagers. Maximum of the planted mangroves are alive now. The villagers are now taking care of those planted mangroves. We are proving them regular motivation to protect the planted mangroves. It is not hard to plant the mangroves; but it needs proper care to nourish them appropriately. We are very much aware of the current COVID-19 situation and maintaining social distancing with the local community. We are also inspiring them to become aware and describing them how to remain safe in this pandemic situation.
