Mangroves are of massive significance regarding environmental protection and supporting with livelihood options to the poor coastal communities. Bangladesh Environment and Development Society (BEDS) is seriously concerned with mangrove restoration and has been conducting community based mangrove plantation and restoration activities in the Sundarbans coastal region of Bangladesh since 2013.
Possible date for mangrove plantation inauguration ceremony has been fixed. We would like to inaugurate the mangrove plantation program on 10th February 2021; if any serious issue will not arise. We have completed all the preparatory works for planting 20,000 mangroves in Paschim Dhangmari village under Banishanta Union of Dacope sub district under Khulna district of Bangladesh. Soil has been prepared inside the selected ponds and single plot. Strong saplings have been separated through the negotiation with the nursery owners. We have discussed with the villagers several times about the plantation. Local government representatives showed their interest to participate in the mangrove plantation inauguration ceremony. Invitation letters has been sent to the Divisional Commissioners office and to Sub district administration office to join in the program. We believe that our mangrove plantation activity will have a great impact among the community and we will be able to create a mangrove buffer zone in the Sundarbans coastal area of Bangladesh together with local community.
We would like to request all our donors to start monthly recurring donations for the betterment environment. We are extremely grateful to our donors for their support so far.
