Mangrove Conservation & Restoration in Bangladesh

Importance of mangroves for environmental protection is significant. Mangroves are distinguished species for their carbon sequestering capacity. So, to protect the mangroves, BEDS has been working since 2010.

Current mangrove plantation activity of BEDS is going well. Since February 10, 2021, BEDS has been conducting mangrove plantation activity. Number of mangroves planted from 26 February 2021 in each day is: 26 February 530 mangroves, 27 February 570 mangroves, 28 February 510 mangroves, 01 March 470 Mangroves, 02 March 680 mangroves, 03 March 535 mangroves and 4 March 460 mangroves. We are planting mangrove every single day, until 20,000 mangroves is planted. Till 25^th of February we planted 11,940 mangroves. As of today (04 March 2021), number of planted mangroves is 15695. We hope to finish the plantation activity by 10^th March 2020. Now we are focusing on protecting the planted mangroves. We have discussed with villagers to select one person for guarding. Hopefully, we can select one suitable person soon.

Beside this, BEDS celebrated World Wildlife Day-2021 on 3^rd March at Purbo Khejuria village. Around 30 people were present in that event. BEDS staffs discussed about the importance of wildlife for mangrove protection among the villagers.
