BEDS (Bangladesh Environment and Development Society) has been working for restoring mangroves since 2013. Our ongoing mangrove plantation activity has been completed.
BEDS had a mission to plant 20,000 mangrove saplings with the participation of local community within 10 March 2021. BEDS has successfully completed this mission of planting 20,000 mangrove saplings by the local community. Number of mangroves planted since 5 March 2021 in each day is: 5 March 1040 mangroves, 6 March 615 mangroves, 7 March 855 mangroves, 8 March 605 mangroves, 9 March 570 mangroves and 10 March 620 mangroves. Till 4 March, total number of planted mangrove was 15695. Finally, 20,000 mangrove saplings were planted by the coastal communities. The success is the result of hard work of the coastal people. Now we are focusing on monitoring of the planted mangroves. Because plantation is very easy but conserving the planted mangroves are always difficult. So, BEDS has recruited a local guard. We hope that, this initiative will assist to create a mangrove buffer zone.
