Mangrove Conservation & Restoration in Bangladesh

Mangrove restoration is one of the prime working sectors of BEDS. The organization has been working for restoring mangroves since 2013. We have completed planting 20,000 mangroves last month. Now we are planning to plant 5,000 mangroves with the funds raised through GlobalGiving and 20,000 mangroves with the support of another organization. As a whole, we will plant 25000 more mangroves. Our preferred project site is on the bank of Kultoli river at Mathurapur village under Munshigonj union of Shyamnagar sub district of Satkhira district of Bangladesh. Site location is 1st plot: from Lat: 22.2350551584, Long: 89.1602841652 to Lat: 22.232951456, Long: 89.1615961248 and 2nd plot: from Lat: 22.2358929648, Long: 89.1631407423 to Lat: 22.2332560543, Long: 89.1618832395. The site is very much suitable for mangrove plantation. We have the experience of planting mangroves in that site. There are existing mangroves beside our target place as a result of our previous plantation. Beside the proposed site, we have our cyclone shelter and training center. Mangrove nurseries are also available here in the village. We have a great relationship with the local community as we have been working in that village since 2013. Now we are preparing our plan to plant mangroves in the proposed site. Before that we will discuss with the local community and local government representatives about our plan. After that we will finalize our plantation date. But we hope that we can start our plantation activity from May 2021.

We have been conducting regular monitoring of our recently planted 20,000 mangroves. One guard has been recruited for guarding activity of those planted mangroves.
