Mangrove Conservation & Restoration in Bangladesh

BEDS is a leading non government organization for conserving mangrove ecosystem. The organization becomes the pioneer regarding community based mangrove restoration. BEDS always applies community based approaches. As of now, BEDS has restored over 200,000 mangroves in the Sundarbans region together with local people. Currently BEDS is planning to plant 25,000 mangroves in the Sundarbans coastal region.

Maximum of the preparatory works have been completed like; discussion with local people and local govt., site selection, preparation for fencing and most importantly saplings collection. BEDS has been assisting local villagers to establish mangrove nurseries for their extra earning and nature conservation. Local people have established six mangrove nurseries. We will collect good saplings from those nurseries because good saplings will increase the chance of survival of the plants. One good sign is, children and women of the village are showing great response for mangrove restoration. We believe that we would be able to create a mangrove buffer zone by restoring 25,000 mangroves at Mathurapur village under Munshigonj union of Shyamnagar Sub district of Satkhira district of Bangladesh.
