Mangrove restoration is one of the prime working areas of BEDS. The organization is trying to create buffer zones in the coastal periphery which will beneficial both for environment and for humans. So far, BEDS has restored around 202000 mangroves in the Sundarbans coastal region. Currently, BEDS is preparing for planting 25000 mangroves at Satkhira district.
Plantation site is selected, saplings are available in the local nurseries and we ordered for it, discussion with villagers and local government is completed. Now fencing activity is going on with the participation of the local villagers. Planting mangroves is always easy, but keep it alive is a big challenge. To ensure the detachment of cattle from the plantation area, we are doing fencing in our selected site. We have a plan to start the mangrove plantation activity in the beginning of May 2021.
Unfortunately, Bangladesh is facing the second spike of Covid-19 and situation is not good at all. So, we will apply plan B for our plantation activity; that is we will not gather a large number of villagers for villagers. Rather, small groups will be engaged for plantation activity which will reduce the possibility of infection being spread out. We will also provide them mask before plantation so that they can keep themselves safe.
We are requesting all our donors to stand for the coastal communities of Bangladesh for the betterment of their lives and ecosystem and start monthly recurring donation by clicking the following link;
