Mangrove Conservation & Restoration in Bangladesh

Ever since the beginning of BEDS journey, the organization has a great passion for mangrove restoration in the Sundarbans coastal region of Bangladesh. Creating a buffer zone in the coastal periphery is a dream of the organization. On the way of fulfilling its dream; BEDS has planted over 230,000 mangroves in the coastal region together with local people so far. Currently BEDS has completed its preparatory activities for planting 25,000 mangroves at Satkhira district. Finance is being provided by GlobalGiving and Korea Green Foundation (KGF) for this respect.

All the preparatory works are completed (site selection, negotiation with nursery owners, discussion with local people and local government, soil preparation and fencing for plantation). So, everything is ready for starting our mangrove plantation activity. We had a plan to start our mangrove plantation activity from the very beginning of May 2021. But unfortunately, due to the ominous spreading of COVID-19, Bangladesh Government has declared a lockdown till 5th May 2021. So, we can’t start our plantation activity before that. We will consider social distancing and safety issue while planting mangroves.
