Bangladesh Environment and Development Society (BEDS) has been conducting community-based mangrove plantation and restoration activities since 2013. Very recently, we have completed planting 20,000 mangroves at Banishanta union of Dacope sub district under Khulna district of Bangladesh. We have been conducting monitoring of our recently planted 20,000 mangroves. Beside that BEDS has motivated and provided support to local 5 women to establish mangrove nursery. These women are now earning handsome amount by selling the mangrove seedlings.
Impact:
In the Sundarbans coastal region five women have changed the life by making mangrove nursery. They were lazy at home and dependant on husband’s income. After producing mangrove saplings, they are well to do. Now they can contribute their family. Their living standard has been developed. They have empowered themselves by mangrove nursery. People now evaluate and honor their works and this are a great inspiration to them.
Feedbacks from the beneficiaries:
One of the mangrove nursery owners has expressed her felling. Before starting the mangrove nursery I was a house wife and my only activity was cooking. Very often I saw from my home that the local mangrove seeds were wasting in many way naturally. Then we collected the seed and used as fuel. But with the contribution of BEDS, we started producing saplings with the mangroves seeds.I started hard work in the mangrove nursery after finishing my household work. People used to laugh at me when I worked in the mangrove nursery. By spending more time and doing hard work I produced thousands of mangrove saplings. I earned more money by selling the mangrove saplings. I am contributing to my family expenses and gain a respectful position not only in my family but also among the villagers. They are also inspired by the success of mangrove nurseries. Finally I thank to the donor who gave me the support to live a better life.
We would like to thank all our donors for their contribution and faith for us. We are also requesting our donors to start monthly recurring donations. For recurring donation please find the link below;
