Mangroves play an important role to protect environment as well as coastal community. BEDS (Bangladesh Environment and Development Society) has been working for restoring mangroves since 2013. Till now BEDS has planted 2… mangrove saplings involving local community.
Mangrove plantation activities is going on at Mathurapur with a goal to plant 25,000 mangrove samplings. The mangrove plantation activity is done by the coastal community. Number of mangroves planted from 21 May 2021 in each day is:
21 May 820 mangroves, 22 May 930 mangroves, 23 May 790 mangroves, 24 May 855 mangroves and 25 May 530 mangroves. On 26 May, cyclone Yash lashed out in this area. Water level was increased and people took shelter in the cyclone shelter. The local people are not able to conduct the plantation activities due to the flood. We have already reached half of our target.
They are saying that, “Mangrove has saved us from the cyclones again. This region would go under water, if there is no mangrove. We have to come forward to plant mangroves for our own protection.”
We would like to thank all our donors for their support for us. We are also requesting our donors to start monthly recurring donations. For recurring donation please find the link below;
