Mangroves have great importance for environmental protection. BEDS (Bangladesh Environment and Development Society) has been working for restoring mangroves since 2013. Till now BEDS has planted 2,50,000 mangrove saplings in the Sundarbans coastal region of Bangladesh.
Mangrove sapling is a must to have a healthy mangrove. Last year BEDS supported 5 women to establish 5 mangrove nurseries. BEDS provided poly bag, manure (cowdung), shade and water system to water the mangrove saplings. Last year, BEDS had a goal to produce 1,00,000 mangrove saplings from the 5 nurseries. The women of the nurseries worked very hard to reach the goal. Finally they reached the goal and started selling mangrove saplings. We were getting much profit from the mangrove saplings.
In this year, BEDS has not supported the women yet. They are purchasing poly bag by themselves and has already started producing mangrove saplings. One of the woman said, “BEDS had established a new source of income for us. We are getting much benefit from the mangrove saplings. In this year, we are producing mangroves by our own initiative.”
We would like to thank all our donors for their contribution for us. We are also requesting our donors to start monthly recurring donations. For recurring donation please find the link below;
