Sundarbans the coastal shield for Bangladesh is now in degrading state. And also due to climate changethe rate of natural calamities is increased. so, mangroves restoration can save the coastal life ster and provide livelihood support to the coastal community.
BEDS (Bangladesh Environment and Development Society) has been working for restoring mangroves since 2013. Till now BEDS has planted more than 2,70,000 mangroves in the Sundarbans coastal region.BEDS has been motivating the local community adjacent to Sundarbans for a long time. BEDS also motivating coastal fish farmers to plant mangrove in their fish farm.
Now the local people are planting mangroves by themselves. The farmers of Paschim Dhangmari village (under Dacope sub district of Khulna district) have started to plant in their aquaculture farms by themselves to protect their farm from being flashed away by coastal surge. They are encouraging other fish farmers to add on this activity. It will make a way for them to one step forward towards mangrove restoration.
