Mangrove plantation belts are expected to act as natural infrastructural buffers against coastal hazards. But their survivability will not endure if the plantation site design is not appropriate. So, plantation site preparation is a big concern before any kind of mangrove restoration activity.
BEDS (Bangladesh Environment and Development Society) a pioneer organization having good experience in mangrove restoration since 2013.Till now BEDS has planted 3,15,770 mangroves in the Sundarbans coastal region especially at the bank of river.
BEDS always ensure the well fencing of the plantation site before starting the plantation to protect the newly sowed saplings being grazed by the cattle. Even BEDS also put stick against each of the saplings so that the saplings can grow strongly and not being washed away by the strong tidal water. BEDS also motivated the local people to take care of the new saplings they have planted by themselves. And through this type of mechanism BEDS ensure a success of the mangrove plantation.
