On 26th July, BEDS celebrated World Mangrove Day 2022 together with coastal people of Sundarbans at Dacope sub district of Khulna District. The day was celebrated to raise awareness among the local people on the importance of mangrove and its conservation.
The celebration started with a discussion session about the importance of the day, it’s background story and objectives. BEDS also organized 3 stalls in which one of the stalls was mangrove information corner. Coastal students and local people visit those stalls and observe the different education materials regarding Sundarbans and mangrove.
Total 120 participants were attended the program together with local government body and BEDS team. A community art work event also organized where community specially the students draw their feelings for the mangrove and what can they do for the conservation of mangrove.
After the art work event the team BEDS together with local people took part in mangrove plantation event. Total 1000 mangrove saplings were planted by the participants at the bank of Poshur river. And after the plantation local people also give promise that they will take care of those planted mangroves because these planted mangroves will protect their river embankment.
