The south western part of Bangladesh is a coastal land with holding the world’s single largest mangrove forest Sundarbans. The people living in this periphery are engaged with the battle between water and land and final results is coastal erosion.
Mangroves in this area slow down the wave action, a major cause of erosion, and buffer the land against tides and cyclone.
BEDS has been planting mangroves since 2013 for reducing the impact of the climate change and create a mangrove buffer zone against coastal erosion. Together with the local people, only this year BEDS have planted more than 200 thousand mangrove seeds and saplings at the bank of river during low tide period. Before plantation BEDS have ensured the fencing of the fellow land to protect the newly saplings from the grazing of cattle. Women who collected mangrove seeds for using it as cooking fuel are now collecting the seed for plantation activity and its helping them to get some economic benefits. As the season for availability of mangrove seed is going to be end at end of September so, there is only few days the local people have in their hand to make it possible to create a mangrove barrier against river embankment erosion.
So, it’s our urge to our donor to help local people to survive from natural calamities by planting more and more mangrove seeds at bank of river with in season.
We would like to thank all our donors for their contribution and faith for us. We are also requesting our donors to start monthly recurring donations. For recurring donation please find the link below:
