BEDS has been working for mangrove reaeration activities since 2013. Till now BEDS has planted 3,15,770 mangrove saplings which restore almost 30 hectors area in the Sundarbans coastal region of Bangladesh. In 2022, BEDS has already planted more than 1,50,000 mangrove saplings. BEDS plant the mangroves at the river bank to protect the coast and coastal community from the harmful effects of climate change like the river bank erosion due to the sea level rise.
For the restoration activities, safety of the place is a must. Before doing the plantation, activity BEDS ensured the fencing of the plantation site with bamboo, net and rope. The area becomes protected and within a few days newly grown grass is seen and those grass helps to assist in the natural regeneration process and also BEDS plants mangrove seed and seedlings for boost the regeneration process.
