Sundarbans is the world’s single largest mangrove forest and very well known for its Eunice biodiversity and ecosystem. The valuable forest is under the threat of global climate change and rapid urbanization. Now it is very crucial time to protect the forest from declining. BEDS has been working since 2013 for the restoration of mangroves by increasing the coverage of the mangroves in the periphery of Sundarbans regions. As a part of the restoration BEDS has been doing awareness raising activities among the local community and doing plantation activities on the riverbank side.
On 21st March BEDS celebrated International Day of Forest 2023 at the bank of Poshur river in Bajua, Dacope. With the participation of 60 school going students BEDS has observed the day by doing a discussion session and mangrove plantation. In the Discussion session students explained the importance of forest in their future life and BEDS team made awareness about the conservation of planted mangrove trees and how to plant mangrove trees. 600 mangrove saplings were planted with the help of students at the river bank side.
One of the students said, this is the first time he joined any program like that and he was very happy to plant 10 mangrove trees in the river bank side. It’s a very amazing event for him because he has never participated any mangrove plantation event before.
