We are excited to announce a major leap forward in our mission to restore coral reefs! Our current facilities, which have been our home for the last 6 years, were repurposed from an old hotel building complex.
Thanks to a redevelopment project in our current area we are moving to a brand new location in Playa Blanca, Punta Cana! Our new Marine Innovation Center will be a state-of-the-art facility that we designed specifically for scaling up our coral restoration efforts and providing an adequate testing ground for our partners to test their new technology and tools which aim towards coral reef conservation at a larger scale of application. The construction for the building started in late April, and the land as well as the funding for the new building was provided by Grupo Puntacana. This new center will allow us to increase our capacity from 7,000 to 23,000 coral microfragments at a time. This expansion is crucial for improving our coral life support systems and accelerating our restoration projects.
This prime location offers us a fantastic opportunity to reach a broader audience and shine a spotlight on the pressing threats to our reef ecosystems. By engaging with the public, we aim to inspire a shift towards more sustainable practices in daily life.
Thanks to generous donations, partnerships, and grants, we have already secured the equipment needed for our current operations and an additional 16 tanks. Our ultimate goal is to create an 32-tank outdoor nursery, significantly amplifying our coral restoration efforts.
