We have a new yoga deck!

By Jessica Lawson | Co-Founder

Because of your support, we were able to build a new yoga deck! This large shaded platform is such an important part of our campus.

Adolescence can be a hard time for girls. Many face pressure about how they look, stress at school or home, and a growing sense that their bodies are being judged. For girls who have experienced hardship or trauma, those pressures can be even heavier.

Yoga gives girls tools the need to work though all of those challenges!

  • Managing stress and big emotions. Breathing practices and quiet moments teach girls to calm their bodies and minds when they feel anxious or overwhelmed. They can use these skills anywhere, whether before an exam or during a hard conversation.
  • A healthier relationship with their bodies. Yoga focuses on what the body can do and how it feels, not how it looks. Research on yoga programs for girls has linked regular practice with more positive body image.
  • Confidence and self-worth. Holding a balance pose a little longer each week, or trying something new in front of peers, builds a sense of accomplishment that carries into other parts of life.
  • Focus. Paying attention to breath and movement strengthens concentration, which teachers often notice in the classroom.
  • Physical strength and health. Yoga builds flexibility, strength, and balance, and it's a form of exercise that girls of every ability can enjoy.
  • Safety and belonging. Practicing together in a supportive group helps girls build trust and friendships. For many, the deck has become a place where they feel safe.

None of this would exist without you. Each time a girl steps onto the deck, takes a deep breath, and feels a little stronger, it's because you chose to invest in her. Thank you for giving the Mariposa girls a place to move, breathe and grow.

With love,

The Mariposas
