Maternity Care for Women in Rural Myanmar

Imagine being pregnant and living far from the nearest health centre, surrounded by plantations and isolated from the services most of us take for granted.

Every day, you continue to work because your family depends on you. You know that you should have a pregnancy check-up, but the journey to a health facility can take hours—and you simply cannot afford the transport costs. So you wait. You hope everything is going well. And you carry on working.

For many women living in remote communities in Myanmar, this is not an imagined story. It is their reality.

Through our Maternity Care Project, we are working to change this. By bringing antenatal care closer to women in remote and isolated areas, trained health workers can provide essential check-ups, identify potential complications early, offer health education and support women throughout their pregnancy.

Where a woman lives should never determine whether she can access the care she needs.

Thanks to the support of our donors, women who would otherwise remain invisible and unreachable can receive the care they need—closer to home, at the moment when it matters most.
