‘’Emmanuel’s Path to Success with Jifundishe’’
Emmanuel, a 42-year-old man, was born in Mwanga District, Kilimanjaro region, in the northern part of Tanzania. He is the eldest of three children, with two younger sisters. The second-born sister completed her education up to Form IV, while the youngest sister dropped out of school after becoming pregnant. Emmanuel's father was a small entrepreneur, and his late mother was a tailor.
In 1990, Emmanuel began his primary education at Lembeni Primary School in Mwanga. His educational journey was fraught with challenges due to his family's lack of a permanent home. In 1992, they moved to Chalinze in the Pwani region for business, and Emmanuel joined Mpera Primary School in Class Four. His father was abusive towards his mother, and eventually, she could no longer tolerate the situation. She decided to separate from her husband and took all her children with her to the Arusha region.
In 1994, Emmanuel enrolled at Kijenge Primary School in Arusha, but after a year, he transferred to Sanawari Primary School due to the family's unstable living situation following his parents' divorce. Despite these disruptions, Emmanuel successfully completed his primary education in 1996 and qualified to join secondary school the following year.
In 1997, Emmanuel started his secondary education at Lembeni Secondary School in Mwanga District. After one and a half years, he decided to transfer to a private school, believing that it offered a better education. His aunt, who worked as an attorney, sponsored him to attend Kiriki Secondary School from 1999 to 2002. Emmanuel completed his secondary education with a Division III pass, which qualified him for advanced secondary education. However, his aunt stopped sponsoring him after he completed Form IV.
After staying home for a year, Emmanuel joined Tanzania Adventist College in 2004 to pursue a Bachelor's degree in Theology. Unfortunately, he had to drop out in 2006 due to a lack of funds. Undeterred, Emmanuel continued to seek educational opportunities. In 2009, his father convinced him to enroll in a one-year certificate program in primary education at Green Bird College in Mwanga District. Emmanuel agreed and started the program, but his father could not continue paying the fees, leading to another dropout after six months.
In 2010, Emmanuel found a job in the hospitality industry in Zanzibar through a friend of his father's. During the COVID-19 pandemic, his wife lost her job at a tourist company. In 2021, she and their son moved to Arusha for employment at the University of Arusha. This turn of events proved fortunate for Emmanuel. When he visited his family in Arusha in January 2023, he learned about Jifundishe, an organization launching a vocational skills training program. Emmanuel was excited to discover that Jifundishe could help him achieve his educational dreams.
In May 2023, Emmanuel joined the Independent Study Program as an advanced student, taking a combination of History, Geography, and Language (HKL) subjects. In 2024, he sat for the Form Six national examination and passed with a Division III, qualifying him for university admission. In October 2024, Emmanuel enrolled at Makumira University, Arusha branch, to pursue a Bachelor's degree in Laws (LLB).
Emmanuel is now fully sponsored by the Jifundishe May Higher Learning program and is proud of his achievements. He aspires to become a politician and, one day, hopes to run for the presidency of Tanzania if it is God's will.
