Summary

This project provides urgent healthcare to victims of police violence, including #EndSARS protesters. During Nigeria's 2020 protests against police brutality, security forces killed at least 12 peaceful demonstrators in the Lekki Toll Gate massacre, while over 100 protesters died nationwide. Shockingly, 103 unclaimed bodies from the protests were later mass-buried by authorities. Today, countless survivors continue to suffer from untreated gunshot wounds, broken bones, and psychological trauma.

Challenge

Police brutality in Nigeria has created a devastating health crisis. During the 2020 #EndSARS protests, security forces killed dozens of unarmed demonstrators, including 12 shot dead at Lekki Toll Gate, while hundreds more suffered life-altering injuries. Today, survivors face untreated gunshot wounds, broken bones, and severe PTSD without access to proper medical care or mental health support. Many cannot afford surgeries or counseling, leaving them trapped in pain and perpetual poverty.

Solution

This project will provide comprehensive healthcare including emergency surgeries to repair untreated gunshot wounds and fractures, trauma counseling for Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, and rehabilitation services to help survivors heal. We'll document all cases to demand justice and push for systemic reform. Also, we'll facilitate open dialogue sessions between police officers and survivors of police violence to rebuild trust, and develop strategies to prevent future incidents of brutality.

Long-Term Impact

By providing complete medical care and trauma counseling for Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, this initiative will help survivors fully recover physically and psychologically. Our documentation of cases will create lasting evidence for systemic police reform, while the facilitated dialogues between officers and survivors will transform relationships and prevent future violence. These efforts will establish new standards for accountability & healthcare responses to police brutality across Nigeria.
