An exalting continuity

Dear Friends,

We’re now fully implemented in the Beqaa valley and started the medical activities.

Every week, our medical team, made up with a doctor and two nurses provide free consultations directly in refugee camps. The needs are huge and diversified but we already managed to visit many families and children to bring a medical support.

The most common problem is the lack of access to medical infrastructure and medicines. Some cases are quite common (hypertension, flu or scabies) but some pathologies are more dangerous or haven’t be treated since a long time and might worsen.

But our action doesn’t limit itself to provide consultations and medicines but also aim to inform people. Many of them are unaware of their rights and don’t beneficiate from them only because they ignore how or where assert their rights. This lack of information might lead to serious, yet avoidable situation. Our next step will be to carry out awareness health session in the camps to limit contagious diseases.

In the same time, we continued and developed the social/psychological aspect of the project, mainly through activities and games with children. As said before, our work with the children shows encouraging results with some positive changes in their behavior and state of mind.

Even if we’re already satisfied by the improvement of the situation we decided to experienced a new approach. During the past few weeks we trained a group of 15 unmarried female teenagers to teach them about women empowerment and child protection. We want them to take the helm once we will leave this refugee camp to another one. The objective is twofold: keeping an eye and maintain activities in the camp even after our departure; and helping those girls by providing a small income, enough to avoid them to work illegally in a field or being financially obliged to marry someone.

A thrilling development

Dear Friends,

After a successful implementation in the Bekaa valley, we’re actually developing our project, a lot!

Thanks to your many donations we’ve been able to hire a relevant team dedicated to the project.

The bus is now used at its full potential, every day of the week.

The medical part of our project is in on the verge to begin. Some nurse will visit the camps soon to make a need assessment and a doctor will join them in the next few weeks. Our bus includes a private part, ideal to welcome the patients. Thanks to our previous visits and the bound that we created with the camps inhabitant, they will open their houses to the psychologist and the social worker to continue their work.

Now that we can spend more time and fund on this project, we’re starting an expansion phase in the south of Lebanon. But in the same time, the humanitarian situation in the Bekaa is so disastrous that we have to maintain an important presence here. We want to spend more time in the Bekaa, to increase our impact on the beneficiaries’ life before to divide our work in another area.

Our work with the children is starting to yield encouraging results. Indeed, we witnessed a change in their behavior. Their calmer, they feel safer, they’re more disciplined. But most of all, they start to play together, to trust each other; they share our game, instead of being in a consistent competitive state of mind.

Because most of them have experienced trauma and important distress, we can’t expect a quick result, but we’re already satisfied by the improvement of the situation.

A refugee camp isn’t a good milieu for kids to develop themselves and grow-up, but we’re proud to bring some stability in their life, even if it’s only a beginning.

A triumphant beginning

Dear Friends,

We’re really excited to let you know that so far, our project is a total success.

We unveiled the bus at the beginning of the summer in a refugee camp located in Zahle, in the east part of Lebanon. This camp is largely made up of Syrian families who can’t access most services and the humanitarian help.

Until now, we mostly focused on the psychosocial support with a team of psychologist, animator and social worker. In this way, we can have a better understanding of the situation and prepare the ground for the medical support.

To be efficient we tried to focus on only 30 kids per session. Unfortunately the needs are a lot, and the entertainment is so rare in this camp, that it’s merely impossible to keep the other children at a distance. We’re trying to solve this “problem” by including as much kids as possible in our program while working with smaller groups on the psychosocial issues.

Most of the children in this camp have experienced trauma and distress and have left their country of origin in fear. Many of them suffer from different troubles from psychosomatic disorders to a low self-esteem. Unfortunately, living in a refugee camp doesn’t help them in getting better. Each session allows us to have a better understanding of the scope of the problem and of the disastrous consequences of living in this environment.

We’re now well-known in this refugee camp and have the trust of the inhabitant, children and families. This confidence will help us to go deeper in the psychosocial support and to be more efficient.

After this successful implementation in this camp we’re now entering an expansion phase. We already have some refugee camps in mind, from the north to the south of the country.
