Project Overview

Adjah Cancer Support Ghana launched the "Medications for Children with Cancer" project to address the critical need for accessible and affordable cancer treatment for children in Ghana. The project aims to provide essential medications, improve treatment adherence, and offer comprehensive support to children diagnosed with cancer and their families.

  • Support Services: Provide psychological, social, and financial support to children and their families.
  • Education and Awareness: Educate families about cancer treatment protocols and the importance of medication adherence.
  • Partnerships: Collaborate with healthcare providers, pharmacies, and NGOs to enhance the effectiveness of the project.

Implementation1. Medication Procurement and Distribution

The project procured a range of essential cancer medications through partnerships with pharmaceutical companies and donors. These medications were distributed to participating hospitals and clinics based on the needs of the pediatric oncology departments.

2. Family Support Program

A comprehensive support program was established to assist families in managing the emotional and financial burdens of cancer treatment:

  • Counseling Services: Provided professional counseling to help children and their families cope with the psychological impact of cancer.
  • Financial Aid: Offered financial assistance to cover treatment-related expenses, including transportation and accommodation for families traveling from remote areas.
  • Nutritional Support: Supplied nutritional supplements to improve the overall health and recovery of children undergoing treatment.

3. Education and Outreach

Educational sessions were conducted to ensure families understood the treatment regimen and the importance of medication adherence:

  • Workshops and Seminars: Organized workshops for parents and caregivers on managing side effects, nutrition, and maintaining treatment schedules.
  • Educational Materials: Distributed brochures and booklets with detailed information on childhood cancer and treatment protocols.

4. Monitoring and Evaluation

A robust monitoring system was established to track medication usage, treatment adherence, and patient outcomes:
