It's that time of year when we "paws" and give thanks for the people in our lives and that includes all our furry friends.
Aspen will turn 10 months old on December 26, 2015. I brought her into our home at 8 weeks old and brought her to work at just nine weeks old. Let me just say, we are so grateful for her.
Aspen has a natural ability to nuture. She is quite the cuddle bug and does not care one bit that she is bigger than my lap! While in office, she loves greeting clients and staff alike. Her very presence lifts the mood within the office.
Aspen just finished her first round of TDI training (Therapy Dog International). She did not test because she is too young (she must be a minimum of 1 year old to test) All in all, she did really well. We learned the expectations of the exam and plan to test in early Spring 2016. Meanwhile, Aspen will continue to work with a private trainer and strengthen her skills.
Around 30 percent of rape victims suffer from PTSD.Traditionally, service dogs have been used for people who are blind, deaf, or have other physical disabilities. Recently they’ve shown promise for people with psychological ailments as well, including depression, bipolar disorder, autism, and especially PTSD. Experts say that service dogs could be beneficial for sexual-assault victims and may even be uniquely suited to help them overcome their issues with trust and relationships.
We are excited to be on this journey with Aspen in hopes to further provide services and support to victims of Sexual Assualt within our community.
From our family to yours, Merry Christmas!
