During this quarter, we reached 120 young people, comprising 70 girls and 50 boys, with mental health and psychosocial support services aimed at promoting emotional wellbeing, resilience, and positive social relationships.
We conducted eight psychosocial support sessions and four peer support group meetings, creating safe and supportive spaces for young people to openly discuss stress, anxiety, family pressures, peer relationships, and other social challenges affecting their wellbeing. Through these sessions, participants learned practical coping strategies, stress management techniques, and effective communication skills. They were also encouraged to seek help when needed and support one another in addressing emotional and social challenges.
Ten young people who required additional assistance were referred to appropriate service providers for further assessment and specialised care.
One positive change observed was among girls who had previously missed school during their menstrual periods. Through the discussions, they gained a better understanding of menstruation as a normal biological process and expressed willingness to continue attending school during their periods. This represents an important step towards reducing menstrual stigma, improving school attendance, and promoting girls' confidence and participation in education.
Overall, the activities strengthened mental health awareness, encouraged positive coping mechanisms, and promoted peer support among young people. Continued engagement will help reinforce these gains and create supportive environments where young people feel safe, understood, and empowered to seek help when necessary.
