When you were our students, we often shared with you about Why we provide maternity care to families in need in the Philippines. The What and How behind the care we provide is also so very important, as it has been proven to be an evidence-based way to save the lives of mothers and babies living in poverty. I am talking about the Midwives Model of Care™. All our charity birth centers on three different islands here in the Philippines use this model, however, it is rare in our country.
As you know, the Midwives Model of Care™ is a MotherBaby-Family-centered philosophy that views pregnancy and birth as normal life events, focusing on continuous support, personalized education, and minimizing technological interventions when not necessary. It involves monitoring the woman's physical, psychological, and social well-being throughout the childbearing year, providing individualized care, and offering warm, comforting support during labor and after birth. The Midwives Model of Care™ emphasizes a positive and empowering relationship between the mother and her baby, her entire family, and the midwife team caring for them.
This model of respectful care is valuable for all families, but it is especially vital for those who are often overlooked due to their socioeconomic status and inability to pay for care. In our Mercy In Action sponsored birth centers in the Philippines, all of our midwife-led care is provided free of charge to the patient!
Thanks for joining our team as a sponsor after graduation! Thank you for supporting a model of international maternity care, provided by national midwives, proven to get good outcomes, even among the most high-risk mothers and babies across the world!
Please encourage your fellow alumni of Mercy In Action to sign up for this Mercy Alumni Monthly Sustainers Fellowship, and they too will receive these project reports. All it takes is one donation or a monthly pledge in any amount to join. We love you, thanks!
Blessings, and Happy Thanksgiving,
Vicki Penwell, for the entire staff and faculty on the Global Mercy in Action Team,
