Summary

According to WHO, over 40% of pregnant women worldwide are anaemic, mostly due to iron deficiency. Many in poor communities don't get enough nutrients from food. This can lead to illness, weak babies, or even death during childbirth. This project will provide micronutrient supplements such as iron and folic acid to 2,000 pregnant women in urban slums, rural areas, and underserved communities to help mothers stay healthy and give babies a stronger start.

Challenge

Many pregnant women in Nigeria, especially those living in slums and rural areas, struggle to get enough nutrients from their daily meals. Iron and folic acid are often missing, leading to anaemia, fatigue, and complications during childbirth. According to the World Health Organization, over 40% of pregnant women worldwide are anaemic-this increases the risk of miscarriage, stillbirth, and low birth weight. Without basic supplements, both mother and baby face serious health risks.

Solution

We will give iron, folic acid, and other key micronutrient supplements to 2,000 pregnant women in urban slums, rural areas, and underserved communities. These supplements will help prevent anaemia, reduce pregnancy risks, and support the baby's growth. We will will also give basic advice on nutrition and safe pregnancy during each visit. This one-on-one support will not only improve their health but also help them feel more confident and informed.

Long-Term Impact

By giving 2,000 pregnant women access to the nutrients they need, this project can help reduce the number of low birth weight babies, miscarriages, and deaths linked to anaemia and poor nutrition. Healthy mothers are more likely to give birth safely and raise stronger children. Over time, this can ease pressure on health facilities, lower medical costs for families, and improve the overall wellbeing of entire communities-one safe pregnancy at a time.
