PROJECT # 16999 : MID DAY MEALS FOR DISABLED CHILDREN

REPORT DUE ON OCT 11, 2017

Malnutrition refers to the situation where there is an unbalanced diet in which some nutrients are in excess, lacking or wrong proportion. Simply put, we can categorize it to be under-nutrition and over-nutrition. Despite India's 50% increase in GDP since 1991, more than one third of the world's malnourished children live in India. Among these, half of them under 3 are underweight.

One of the major causes for malnutrition in India is economic inequality. Due to the low social status of some population groups, their diet often lacks in both quality and quantity. Deficiencies in nutrition inflict long-term damage to both individuals and society. Compared with their better-fed peers, nutrition-deficient individuals are more likely to have infectious diseases such as pneumonia and tuberculosis, which lead to a higher mortality rate. In addition, nutrition-deficient individuals are less productive at work. Low productivity not only gives them low pay that traps them in a vicious circle of under-nutrition, but also brings inefficiency to the society, especially in India where labor is a major input factor for economic production.

Research has conclusively shown that malnutrition during pregnancy causes the child to have increased risk of future diseases, physical  and mental retardation, and reduced cognitive abilities.

Balajothi is one of few institutions which makes every possible effort to meet and overcome the deficiencies of malnutrition and consequent impairment in growth of its special children, who cannot fend for themselves.  Thanks to the great support from GlobalGiving and its donors from across the globe, Balajothi’s children are growing into healthy and strong children !  We cannot thank you enough for this wonderful support.  THANK YOU GLOBALGIVING !!

Balajothi individually thanks YOU, DONOR, who went out of your way to extend your helping hand.  The  amount of $6677 so far collected is being used to provide nutritional mid-day meals to our special children every day from Monday to Friday.   The children are healthy, happy and vibrant because of YOUR GIVING.  Balajothi is just a drop in the ocean.  There are millions of children around the world who need many more warm hearted people willing to support this noble cause.

Expenditure for the quarter is as under :
