2023 First Trimestre Nutrition Project

By Pim van den Hoven | Head of Social Projects

Dear donors,

We would like to express our most profound and sincere gratitude for all your contributions. Due to the support given by each one of you, Mision Huascaran´s Nutrition Program continues to thrive and expand.  Peru is going through some challenging times, but with unity and commitment we are confident we will overcome all future challenges.

Nutrition Program Progress Report up to March 2023

  1. From january to march, our anti-anemia bakery has produced 48.000 iron-enriched bread rolls to feed +570 children and pregnant women from Huashcao, Canchapampa, Congar, Punyan, Amashca and Pariaqaqa
  2. Milk distribution, hemoglobin screening and nutrition evaluation were performed to the whole target population in March. After summer break, anemia numbers were slightly up, but we are confident we will be able to lower them in the next couple of school months.
  3. The egg laying hen project at the Pariaqaqa school, produced +3.000 free-range eggs in the first three months of 2023. 70 school going children had an additional daily boiled egg for lunch. Each egg provides invaluable nutrients for the childrens physical development.
  4. At the end of the first trimester the school vegetable gardens were planted in anticipation of the 2024 harvest. Thanks to an alliance with Qaliwarma, these vegetables were integrated in the school lunch program. Making the school lunchs a lot more nutritious.
  5. In 2023, in total 22 tons of frozen fish will be distributed in various communities such as: Cachopampa, Cruzcoto, Huayapon, Shoropunta, Armapampa, Mamapampa, Ushno, Yauyo, Queruran, Poncos communities, benefiting more than 11,000 families thanks to the donation of the fishery companies Pesquera Diamante and Pesquera Exalmar. In march 2023, 2 tons were given to the populations.
  6. Furthermore, more than 33.000 fortified milk products were kindly donated by the Grupo Gloria company, these will be destined to give additional nutrition to young mothers and their babies.
  7. Other interesting and important statistics about the program are: +300 house calls made, 85 organic gardens installed and harvested, +150 benefitted from various workshops, talks and demonstration sessions realized throughout the trimester, the training of the 16 Guiding mother, leaders within their communities, trained and empowered to lead by example in their local communities.
  8. Also in January thanks to the Fluye Bottle company, 300 extra ecological drinking bottles were handed out in the project impact zone, expanding the impact of the Clean Water Project, implemented at the end of 2022.

To continue expanding our reach, we require all the help you can give – utilizing the GlobalGiving platform.  The world continuously makes us face great challenges for our societies; and the children are the light and hope at the end of the tunnel for a bright future.

We thank you for all the help you’ve given and will continue to give in the future.
