It is always exciting to give you an update on the Mobile Career Cafe (MCC), because it is such an incredible project. To understand the impact of the MCC, I thought of sharing the results and feedback from a recent trip to a rural town - Darling - an hour drive from Cape Town. It was the second visit of the MCC to Darling and this time, double the number of young people attended and actively participated in the workshops that included new content – the online career profiler test, registering their CVs on an online job portal and career management.
“Very, very, very informative and helpful with lots of useful tips” is how a young participant within the group described the MCC after attending the workshops. The baseline and end questionnaire results are always a good reflection of shifts in knowledge and awareness. Here are some of the results to statements pre- and post the workshops:
To get a visual sense of the MCC in Darling, the youth who attend and hear some reflections in person, please watch the video link attached to this report.
We are now receiving requests to visits high schools and will be planning to reach secondary school learners as this is a critical phase in the career development of a person.
Thank you for your support that keeps the MCC on the road as we reach especially rural youth with career guidance and work readiness services. It will also help us immensely if you could share this report or link to the project within your network. GlobalGiving Tuesday is on 28 November 2023 and it is a wonderful opportunity to increase the support needed to extend the reach of the MCC to more communities.
Again, thank you!
Janine
