The 2023 Al Haouz earthquake marked the strongest earthquake ever recorded in Morocco. In the first six months of The Eve Branson Foundation’s response, we delivered urgently-needed support including food, clean water, emergency shelter, warm clothing, cash assistance and essential household items to those families affected. Entire villages felt the after-effects and hundreds of people from the local communities, partners and NGOs came together to help restore a sense of normality so that day to day life could resume and livelihoods were protected.
Following the launch of our earthquake appeal, we have been leading on the reconstruction of schools, waterways, public buildings and co-operatives, working closely with local government in compliance with earthquake construction safety measures. Our community has worked hard to improve environmental wellbeing for all families through a number of initiatives and to support economic, social and cultural recovery in the region.
Your donations and the support of the GlobalGiving community helped to preserve centuries-old traditions such as our women’s craft collective at the Tamgounssi weaving centre and the restoration of classrooms so that children could get back to face to face learning.
Today, our efforts continue at pace and as we last reported, we are making great progress on the build of a new primary school and pre-school at Tansghart. We are in the process of upgrading the water sanitation systems around the douar of L’Arbre Asni, repairing wind and flood-damaged temporary classrooms in Asni and installing more protective bus shelters across the valley.
Though this will be our final report from this fund, your donation has started a wave of giving and we are committed to serving these precious Amazigh communities for future years. We hope you’ll stay connected with our work through Instagram and Facebook and if you wish to make a donation in the future to our other projects which support education and the rebuilding of more schools, training programmes for young people and women’s crafts, please check our GlobalGiving page or visit the Eve Branson Foundation website to find out more. Your continued support ensures a future that protects the Amazigh people and their land for generations.
“The spirit of giving has united us like never before. Neighbours have joined hands, offering support and resources to one another, creating a tapestry of solidarity. Together, we're not just rebuilding our physical structures but also cultivating resilience for the future.” – Driss, Imi Oughlad resident.
“Your generous support has made a profound difference - one field, school, home, and craft at a time.” – Allison Conroe, GlobalGiving.
Thank you.
