Thanks to your generous support, the Jiyan Foundation recently conducted a vital seminar in Mosul, focused on fundamental human rights and raising awareness of women's rights. This initiative brought together 10 women, equipping them with the essential knowledge and resources needed to become advocates for themselves and their communities.
Why human rights awareness for women matters
Women in many parts of the world face systemic barriers that limit their access to education, healthcare, economic opportunities, and public participation. In conflict-affected areas like Mosul, these challenges are magnified. Our seminar addressed these pressing needs in the following ways:
Providing essential knowledge: Educating participants about their fundamental rights as enshrined in international law.
Breaking the silence: Creating a safe space to discuss sensitive topics like gender-based violence and fostering solidarity.
Building confidence: Empowering women to assert their rights and challenge discriminatory practices.
Promoting empowerment: Helping women make informed decisions, control their lives, and contribute to their communities.
Fostering collective action: Encouraging participants to work together to advocate for policy changes.
Highlights of the Mosul Seminar
During the session, participants engaged with:
Key human rights principles ensure a strong foundation for their rights.
Women-specific rights, such as inheritance, property ownership, and protection from gender-based violence.
Practical resources, including information on legal aid and support services.
Interactive discussions, encouraging dialogue and shared learning.
A step towards sustainable change
This seminar was more than a learning experience—it was a catalyst for lasting change. By equipping these women with the tools to advocate for themselves and their communities, we are taking an important step toward building a society in Mosul that values and protects gender equality.
Your continued support makes initiatives like this possible. Together, we are empowering women, fostering resilience, and driving progress. Thank you for being part of this journey with us!
