Amna Bai
Our culture encourages us to respect and support our aging parents but ever so often we find senior citizens left to fend for themselves. Amna Bai is one such unfortunate person:
Amna Bai is 83 years old. She lives alone and works in a factory to support herself financially since her four children have abandoned her completely. She is frail and weak but tries her best to be regular at her job. She does not make enough to afford proper meals so she eats a simple meal once a day. She often feels lethargic and listless. She has a host of other age-related health issues. Had it not been for the presence of SHINE Humanity / SINA clinic in her locality, she would not have been able to afford visits to a doctor.
At SHINE Humanity supported SINA clinic, she is provided quality primary health care and free medications, because of which she is able to continue working and supporting herself. The convenient short commute to the clinic is an added advantage as she cannot afford to spend money traveling to the government hospitals located in the center of town.
Amna Bai's story is not a dramatic one, but it highlights an issue that is very pertinent in these present times. Amna Bai is a simple woman who at her age should not have to contend with doing physical labor to feed herself. That she has to provide for herself at this age is, unfortunately, a sad reality. When the State is unable to step in to support it's senior citizens, it is left to institutions like SHINE Humanity and SINA to provide a much needed service that helps her take better care of her health.
Please continue to support our organization so that we are able to help more and more senior citizens like Amna Bai.
With Gratitude,
Naila Ahmed, Sarah Emmanuel
