Nawaz is a 46-year-old man who comes to SINA/SHINE Health Center for routine consultations and to pick up medications for his diabetes. He sells children’s suits on the streets and in special bachat bazaars to cater to his family’s basic needs. However, Nawaz’s family often struggles to make ends meet with his meagre earnings.
Nawaz is highly grateful to SINA/SHINEfor enabling him to seek healthcare at a very low cost since, without this, he would not have been compliant with his medication at all due to unaffordability. In addition, the clinic in Baldia Town is only a short distance from his house, which also proves to be highly convenient.
The World Health Organization (W.H.O.) has estimated that the global number of people with diabetes will be more than double over the next 25 years and the developing world would bear an increasingly larger burden of the disease in this period. South Asia and Pakistan, in particular, are considered one of the areas of highest increase in projected numbers.
What these numbers mean is that people like Nawaz will find it more and more difficult to treat and manage this debilitating disease unless they are able to access free quality primary care. Your donations will allow us to keep educating people about preventive and management measures so that they do not suffer the dire consequences associated with diabetes.
With Gratitude,
Naila Ahmed
