Infertility is not only a medical but also a social problem in our society. Cultural customs often equate infertility with a failure on a personal. interpersonal and social level. This compunded by the fact that the poor often lack even the basic knowledge of infertility issues let alone the correct way to mange and tackle the problem leads to women seeking recourse where ever they can find it. Often women end up at the doorsteps of quacks, unqualified midwives, faith healers and other dubious characters that more often than not exploit the desperate women for financial gain.
Ironically,Taj came to our telemedicine clinic in Tando Hyder in Interior Sindh for a totally unrelated health concern. During her history taking she revealed that she had been married 9 years but had failed to concieve inspite of trying all avenues available on her limited resources. The nurse connected her via Skype with a highly trained Gynecologist, Dr Habiba based in the city of Karachi. The Doctor. reviewed her reports and started medications with regular followup visits. Taj conceived within 3 months and dellivered a healthy baby boy recently.
