Dear Friends;
We are proud to announce that our proposed Nutrition Program at the Aasra General Hospital made SHINE one of the fourteen organizations to receive a grant from the International Pediatric Association Foundation in April. SHINE Humanity started services at the Aasra General Hospital on April 17th 2013 to provide outpatient primary healthcare, urgent care, Mother and child healthcare services, and health education for disease prevention. This short-term nutrition program is being added with a purpose to assist 27 malnourished children meet their supplement requirements and achieve a healthy growth. We aspire to expand on this program to provide nutritional supplements to more eligible children.
To further enhance the care for our patients, the staff at the SHINE Humanity -Aasra General Hospital have received cardiopulmonary resuscitation [CPR] training from the trained and experienced providers of Aman Foundation. This is a big accomplishment for SHINE because we are now one of the few facilities in Pakistan with staff properly trained in CPR which will make a difference between life and death of our patients in an emergency situation.
This year, we are set to help more needy patients than in 2013, as a little over 20,000 patients have already received care at SHINE’s project facilities from the beginning of January until the end of May.
We need your continued support to help us provide basic care to children like Shams and Najma who are neighbors belonging to very poor families. Both had high grade fevers and were brought in by their kind neighbors as their fathers could not forgo a day’s wages to take them to a physician. After initial laboratory tests, cold sponging and fever relieving medicines was provided by our staff which helped bring down their temperatures to normal. They were sent home after a few hours of observation and no recurrence of fever.
Many thanks for your generous support;
