Dear GlobalGiving Community,

In our previous reports, we've explored the world of bees, discussing their various types and the crucial roles they play in their habitats. We've particularly focused on stingless bees and their importance in mangrove ecosystems. Over the past year, our explorations have led us to new coastal and mangrove sites.

During one expedition, we observed a fascinating interaction between these bees and mangrove trees. The smaller stingless bees were the main visitors to many mangrove flowers. Species like Aegiceras corniculatum, Avicennia marina, Avicennia officinalis, Bruguiera gymnorhiza, Ceriops tagal, Excoecaria agallocha, Lumnitzera racemose, and Rhizophora mucronate, with their small flowers, depend on these tiny insects for pollination.

Recognizing the vital role of stingless bees in mangrove ecosystems, we decided to empower local community members to rear, protect, and conserve these bee species. This initiative gave rise to "Bees for Mangrove" a creative endeavor aimed at preserving these crucial pollinators and, in turn, the mangrove habitats they support.

The initiative began by appointing local community members who demonstrated enthusiasm and commitment to environmental conservation as “Bee champions”. These champions underwent a comprehensive workshop aimed at raising awareness about the critical role of insects and honeybees in ecosystem health, as well as the importance of sustainable beekeeping practices.

During the workshop, participants learned about beekeeping techniques that are environmentally friendly and promote bee well-being. They were also educated about the value of stingless bees and the benefits of using stingless bee boxes. These boxes, along with necessary equipment and materials, were provided to the champions to start their beekeeping efforts.

Empowering these communities as bee champions not only supports alternate and sustainable livelihoods but also contributes to the conservation of mangrove ecosystems. Bees play a crucial role in pollination, which is essential for the growth and reproduction of many plants, including mangroves. Through this initiative, we aim to foster a harmonious relationship between local communities and their natural environment.

None of this would have been possible without your generous support. Your contributions have directly impacted the lives of these communities and the conservation of our precious mangrove ecosystems. We look forward to sharing more updates with you as this initiative continues to grow and make a positive impact.

Thank you for being a part of this journey towards a more sustainable and resilient future.
