Accompany my child to live his childhood again

More and more laughter came from that thick wall

July 11th2023   by Tuo Tuo Mom

My child, a child with ASD, has had signs of autism since he was one year old. Many thanks to my grandmother for discovering it early,We quickly found relevant information and got help, and started non-stop treatment and training. In addition to going to the hospital frequently during each week, we also had a lot of homework to do at home. We all did our great effort and hope that his thick wall could open for a moment.

Although my life is busy, I often feel lonely in my heart, especially when staying

in the park, playing with the neighbor's children. I always feel that my child is different from others, that is the feeling of me when I was not strong enough at the time. To put it bluntly, it is very painful.

He was growing up by family's efforts accumulated step by step, then he began to speak at the age of four ! That was a sign of hope indeed. He entered school to learn group life, but due to difficulty in expression, his emotions and behavior were all difficult. Teachers and families are quite stressed. I remember while I learn from school about "An'an Slow Flying Angels Family Care Association" offered Slow Flying Angels therapeutic arts classes free of charge, so I started taking my child to percussion, playing music with him, learning about musical instruments, and at the same time I also met very good teachers and a group of parents, and realized that I was not lonely at all.

One year, two years and three years have passed,  we started from percussion class at the beginning, and next to clay classes which satisfied the sense of touch, further to challenge of stumbling in-line skating... I was very happy to see his willingness and courage to try different activities. I also saw him becoming less and less angry, and heard him laughing more and more.

Compared with ordinary talent classes outside, I know that he is less stressed, less  be chased to learn quickly, and less to hear chatter about things he does not understand. I gradually feel happiness staying here. We don’t have to rush to catch up with anything. Instead of accompanying with him, I feel that I actually live our childhood again with my child.

"Children with special needs are different, but parents of special children are also a very different group of parents." I agree with this sentence very much, so I am very grateful to the existence of An'an Association and their hard work for special children, providing our children have opportunity be exposed to different talent classes. At the same time, I made many good friends, also parents are supported each other and helped our children grow up together.

Although his progress is slow, he is now in the first grade of elementary schoolHe is taking Taiko drum lessons in An'an now. He will remind mother that there is a class tomorrow and secretly practice Taiko drum by himself.  Even the school teachers know that he likes music and learns to play Taiko drum in An'an. Hearing this in mother’s ears, I was really relieved that I couldn’t describe in words! I believe these courses he took in An'an. association have planted seeds in his heart. I hope he can keep going and have more courage to explore the world, even if we face many difficulties in the future, we should not give up.
