As 5th grader Isaiah notes in his winning essay on Why is Learning Music Important to Me?, “Music to me is the idea sparker…Just a small simple beat gives you a mind [full] of ideas.” He shares with us that playing his saxophone gives him inspiration, freedom, and focus. “School can be hard, kids can be mean, and [it] helps me concentrate [and] makes me happy.”
Thanks to supporters like you, we believe that someday Isaiah will have the opportunity to reach his dreams of becoming a marine biologist, computer engineer, animator, and musician through a robust and well-rounded education that includes music and the arts.
Yallett, Isaiah’s mother, shares how music has positively impacted her son’s life. Since the music program became part of his life, “he has since become happy, content, [and] more emotionally connected. I see Isaiah with a sense of pride.”
She also relays the importance of music for every child: “I feel that studying music is important [for] kids like Isaiah that need an outlet, that need more than the basic studying they have to do. It opens their minds to other things in life. It’s a form of expression.”
Isaiah is currently one of over 12,000 school children we serve at 25 disadvantaged schools with weekly, yearlong comprehensive music instruction. Our goal for the upcoming school year is to expand to reach 14,500 children at 30 schools.
We are grateful for your continuing support and would love to invite you to visit our music classes in action at any time. In addition, as we expand our music education programs, we’d love to hear from you on how we can make the greatest impact in serving school communities with the greatest need.
Thank you for joining our mission and providing children with hope for a brighter future through music education!
