The benefits of learning to sing and make music in early childhood include developing important listening and language, early literacy, and social skills, SEL, empathy, and more. With your gift, GITC will provide free training and instruments to teachers, parents, and caregivers for the young children to play. We will send Literacy through Music specialists with instruments to Head Start classrooms daycares, preschools, and children's libraries if you help, reaching children wherever they are.
Neighborhood preschools, Head Start programs, a home daycares, a child development centers are starved for funding to keep teachers paid, children nourished, and curriculum exciting, while keeping child care affordable for working families. Many have closed their doors since 2020. Most lack money for essential supplies and have no music budget. The teachers want to make music part of learning every day, and are eager to learn to sing, play, and teach with songs. They need support and supplies.
This project will open the door for anyone serving young children to learn for free with us, from wherever they are, by attending online, and participating in person wherever we can fund, staff, and provide free workshops and instruments. GITC faculty around the country are ready to jump in if we can raise the funds. At this time teachers in 40 states are in training with us virtually. By starting small and building up, our child-centered, caring and creative approach can be available to all.
The long term impact of this project depends on how many teachers we can reach. For each one who trains and gets a set of instruments to share, between 14 and 30 children will make music each day. Teachers in rural communities will touch the lives of families from miles around. Those in urban centers will enrich the lives of children in their communities. For each child who sings and plays, learning, communicating, and developing skills will be more engaging, fun, memorable, and successful.
