She Cannot Stop Watching the Door. We Are Working to Change That. "I cannot sleep. I cannot stop watching the door. Even when there is no sound, I am waiting for it." She is one of 631 people we assessed in South Kivu. 76% have trauma. We are there - and we are not leaving.
In South Kivu, 3 out of 4 people live with PTSD. More than half carry depression, anxiety, and trauma - all at once, every day. Not because they are weak. Because they have survived decades of war with no one to help them heal. A mother in Kabamba told us: "I cannot stop watching the door. Even when there is no sound, I am waiting for it." She is one of 631 people we assessed in 2026. Every single one deserves more than survival.
The Mutima Centre is where healing begins. Our psychologists and social workers offer individual therapy, group sessions, and mobile clinics reaching the most isolated villages - bringing medicine, food, and the one thing people need most: someone who truly listens. Every $15 funds one therapy session. Every $25 brings together 15 people who thought they were alone. Every $300 keeps a psychologist working for a month.
We have been in the DRC for over 20 years - before the headlines, and long after the world moves on. Our goal: 500 trained local psychologists reaching 40,000 people every month. Not just healing trauma - breaking the cycle that passes it silently from parents to children. Become a monthly donor. $25 a month means someone who has nowhere else to turn finds a person ready to listen. Every single month.
