I am proud to share with you the aspirations, and the gratitude, of an outstanding village girl attending the Lycee Moderne de l'Amitie.
Greetings! My name is Zeynab. I am 17 years old and in my next to last year of secondary school at the Lycee Moderne de l’Amitie (LMA). I am concentrating my studies in science. I come from the village of Bagahoko, 30 km from the LMA.
There are seven households in my family’s compound: my grandfather and his wives, my father and his family and my father’s five brothers and their families. While I am at school, I live in Ouahigouya with my father’s sister and family which is about 5 km from the LMA. Since I don’t have a bicycle, I must walk to and from school each day. I am extremely grateful for the school canteen, which provides a noon meal for me and my fellow students at the LMA. It is very important to our academic success, providing us food midday and enabling us to spend the rest of the three hour break (in 100+ degree heat) studying and preparing our lessons.
My dream is to become a physician specializing in oncology in order to treat all forms of cancer, to save lives and to help families affected by this disease.
I want to say thank you to GlobalGiving donors to the Burkina Faso Girls’ Education Fund and Global NEEED Burkina for assisting us with our education and the school canteen.
