By Suzanne Plopper | Project manager
My name is Latifatou. I am in my last year of middle school at the Lycee Moderne de l’Amitie (LMA). Two years ago, my family fled terrorist attacks in my village and settled in a camp for displaced persons in Ouahigouya.
Although my parents have recently returned to my village, I, like other students traumatized by their escape from attacks on their villages, have decided to stay in Ouahigouya and continue my studies at the LMA. Each evening, I and other village girls who are far from their parents share what little we have for an evening meal. Not only does the noon meal at the LMA fill a huge void for me and my fellow students, it also enables us to benefit from the midday break and study for our classes.
I am proud that my academic success as measured by national exams far surpasses the national average.
I want to express my sincere gratitude to GlobalGiving donors for enabling the LMA to provide a basic noon meal every day we are in school.
